Bishop becomes Street Angel

The Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, joined Bradford Street Angels on 19 May to see for himself what the work involves. Working in conjunction with the police and emergency services, the Bradford Street Angels volunteer teams walk through the streets to provide support, comfort and safety to people out for a night on the town.

Nick Baines says, "Bradford’s Street Angels are excellent – good company as well as doing good work looking out for vulnerable people in the city centre. It’s a classic example of service without reward – and is very impressive.”

Matt Dowson, Chair of the Bradford Street Angels Management team, says: "We were pleased to show Nick Baines what the city centre is like on a Saturday night at midnight, and the type of situations we get involved in, such as calling taxis for people who are very drunk and staying with them until it arrives, and offering practical help and a listening to anyone who needs it.

"We kept passing the Bishop between our three three-person patrols so he didn't get a rest and walked solidly for the two hours he was with us."
