Vicar does Triathlon for Church Repairs

RSS

In July, the Revd Stephen Treasure had "the most exhausting experience" of his life completing a triathlon in aid All Saints, Horton.

In a bid to finance repairs on the Grade II* listed building, church members signed up for a sponsored triathlon, a walk round the parish boundary and a 24 hour Bible readathon.

Stephen says, "The triathlon was brilliant, just brilliant. All five of us completed it in about three hours. Running up gentle hills on the final 5k run was the most exhausting experience ever, but I was well supported by younger colleagues, two of whom carried me over the finishing line.

"Nine people did the 4 mile walk around the parish boundary and two did the Bible readathon. One said it was the most marvellous experience of God; reading the Bible in huge chunks brought it to life, and she felt Jesus speaking to her.

"The whole experience has brought the church and local community together in a shared challenge.

"£2,500 was raised at the weekend, and as the proceeds are still coming in, we hope we may be able to reach our £4000 target to help us save stonework, windows and the roof. All Saints is a magnificent building that Bradford deserves to keep into the foreseeable future. "
