World Church Links - Sudan
A New Archbishop is elected
Following the retirement of Archbishop Marona, a new Archbishop has been elected and was enthroned in April
The Archbishop-elect is the Rt Revd Daniel Deng Bul, currently Bishop of Renk, tucked between the southern borders of "our" link dioceses of Port Sudan, Khartoum and Kadugli.
David Lee was present at the election and Bishop David James represented the Archbishop of Canterbury at the enthronement.
Bishop David has written a diary of his visit which will shortly be available here.
Three photos from the Emergency Synod to elect the new Archbishop are to be found on these pages.
Bradford Diocese has a long-term commitment to Sudan, supported by our link with Southwestern Virginia. Tri-lateral links are an exciting and innovative way of sharing, supporting and growing together as the World Church across three continents.
There are some good web page resources about Sudan. They are available through the Provincial website at
The fullest list of resources is available on the Salisbury website.
Three of our link Dioceses have websites:
Only the Khartoum site carries much information at presentA regular exchange of visitors ensures good, open relationships and the possibility to learn from and to serve one another. The area of Darfur, so prominent in news bulletins, is in the Diocese of El Obeid, one of our four "links" and, with the Mothers' Union, Bradford has been pleased to raise material and financial help for this desperate area.
The links are not all one way... We, in our comfortable Western lives have so much to learn from these Christians with a deep and living faith.
